Alasdair Roberts
Alasdair Roberts has lived in Glasgow for 20 years. His early group Appendix Out released three albums on Drag City Records; since 2001 he has continued to release music and tour under his own name. His most recent album, entitled Alasdair Roberts, was released in 2015. Primarily a singer, guitarist, composer, lyricist and interpreter of traditional song, Alasdair's work is concerned with an exploration of the tensions between tradition and innovation; he is particularly interested in the notion of music-making as a syncretic process. His records feature fellow musicians from Glasgow's music scene such as Tom Crossley, Stevie Jones and Alex Neilson; he is also a member of the folk group The Furrow Collective with Emily Portman, Rachel Newton and Lucy Farrell. He has collaborated with artists such as Concerto Caledonia, Martin Carthy, Gaelic singer Mairi Morrison, film maker Luke Fowler, poet Robin Robertson and puppeteer Shane Connolly, among others.
