Alex Neilson
Alex Neilson is originally from Leeds, Yorkshire and has been based in Glasgow for around a decade. As a drummer, he has toured and recorded with artists such as Baby Dee, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jandek, Josephine Foster, Current 93, Six Organs of Admittance, Richard Youngs and Alasdair Roberts. Since 2008 he has been instrumental in founding several groups, including Directing Hand, Tight Meat, Death Shanties and Crying Lion. One of his main current musical projects is the group Trembling Bells, which explores Alex's own songwriting and singing while channeling its members' shared appreciation for traditional/folk, improvised, 'early' and rock musics. The group has released several critically-acclaimed albums, the most recent of which, 'The Sovereign Self', was released by Tin Angel Records in 2015. As a writer, Alex's work has been featured in several publications and he is a regular contributor to Wire Magazine.
